Nie żyje Jan Furtok

 

Legendarny napastnik GKS-u Katowice i 36-krotny reprezentant Polski zmarł w wieku 62 lat. W ostatnich latach toczył walkę z Alzheimerem. O śmierci piłkarza poinformował jego były klub.

Jan Furtok uznawany jest za jednych z najlepszych zawodników wywodzących się z Górnego Śląska. Był niekwestionowaną legendą GKS-u Katowice i najlepszym strzelcem w historii klubu, zdobywając w 299 spotkaniach 122 bramki (grał w latach 1979-88 oraz 1995-98). Z GieKSą zdobył Puchar Polski, a także wicemistrzostwo kraju i brązowy medal mistrzostw Polski.

Był 36-krotnym reprezentantem Polski, dla której zdobył 10 bramek. Jedna z nich, pamiętny gol ręką w San Marino, zapisała się w annałach polskiego futbolu. Furtok wystąpił także w kadrze na mundialu w 1986 roku w Meksyku. W 2019 roku został uhonorowany przez PZPN, który z okazji swojego 100-lecia umieścił go wśród stu najwybitniejszych reprezentantów Polski.
